Do you have questions about Inner Peace Reiki classes?

Check out this list of Frequently Asked Questions to see if we already have an answer for you.

  • Inner Peace Reiki strives to keep our teachings as traditional as possible. We are deeply aware of Reiki’s history and understand that what we know of this healing art has been Westernized through historical influences like WWII. Our classes acknowledge this gap in information, and still, we do our best to keep our information as close to the teachings of Hawayo Takata as we know. We briefly include related topics in our classes, such as Chakras. Whenever we introduce a concept that is not Reiki, we make sure to point that out, and give background as to where that information comes from.

  • Our teachings fall under the Usui Reiki Lineage. Usui was the man who is credited for starting, and systematizing Reiki practice in Japan. We do not teach more modernized varieties of Reiki such as Holy Fire Reiki. We believe it is important to honor the roots of Reiki, and we therefore teach as traditionally as possible.

  • We do not add any symbols outside of the 4 that have been passed down from Takata.

  • Currently, we do not offer any Zoom classes. We believe that an in-person experience is essential to understanding Reiki concepts. The founder of Reiki, Mikao Usui, was passionate about teaching through extended mentorship. We understand that this isn’t a realistic possibility for many in this world, but we strive to honor his original process by offering only in-person classes.

  • Inner Peace Reiki has been offering classes to the community in Missoula, Montana since 2001. Before teaching any Reiki Master/ Level III classes, our founder, Neil, committed himself to teaching 100 Reiki I and Reiki II classes. His commitment to learning and honoring the Reiki way shines through in his teachings and has been passed down to his assistant, Bonita.

  • While Neil has taught classes on his own for the bulk of his time as a Reiki teacher, he has welcomed Bonita as a co-teacher for Reiki I & Reiki II within the past couple of years. Since doing so, he has come to realize how powerful it is to bring different voices and perspectives into the classroom.

  • Our Reiki classes are held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on 202 Brooks Street in Missoula, Montana. For many years, Inner Peace Reiki held classes at the former Red Willow Healing Center. After it closed, IPR needed to find a new location. Neil was hesitant to hold classes in a church, despite the good recommendation he received about the space. After one class, he was blown away by the good energy and kind people who let him teach classes there. The pastor of the church even ended up taking all of Inner Peace Reiki’s classes–all the way up to Reiki Master / Level III.

  • Yes, we have been delighted and blown away by the distances some students travel to take our classes. For nearly every class, people come from all corners of the state – even during the blustery winter months! We have even gotten students who have flown in from different states (e.g., Minnesota, New York, Washington, Oregon, and Utah), and even different countries! (Neil taught a private class for a student from Japan in 2017 and has also taught students from Canada).

  • ○ Reiki I is one full day (9am-6:00pm)

    ○ Reiki II is also one full day (9am-6:00pm)

    ○ Reiki Master / Level III is a total of 4 full days (spread out over 3 months). We hold the first two days consecutively and reconvene for the last two days after 3 months. This gives students time to finish their research projects, complete their required Reiki sessions, and ask any questions that come up along the way.

  • Most of our students are interested in healing and spiritual growth. They are passionate about creating positive change in the world and learning more about themselves.

  • Great question! We believe that Reiki has great potential to spread healing through the world, and that such potential can be accessed by anyone. We don’t want high prices to be a barrier for deeper healing. We are one of the main Reiki schools in the Northwest and have taught over 1,200 students. Reaching so many people has only been possible by keeping affordable class prices.

  • If you must cancel a class, we ask that you do so with more than 10 days notice.

Any cancellation with less than 10 days notice will be charged a cancellation fee.

    The fees are as follows:

    ■ Reiki I students will be charged a $25 cancellation fee

    ■ Reiki II students will be charged a $30 cancellation fee

    ■ Reiki Master / Level III has a non-refundable deposit of $50. This means that IPR will keep the full deposit in the event of any cancellation, regardless of whether 10 days notice is given.
